Membership

1

Unpaid Members

There are two levels of membership: unpaid members and paid members. Key Club welcomes all to join at any level of membership, however there are a few differences. Unpaid members can attend club meetings, DCMs, and service events. We love all of our members and do not favorite paid members over unpaid members, but there is a catch. Unpaid members cannot state that they were a member of Key Club in the college applications and they are not insured by Kiwanis International during service events. Due to insurance, some events are exclusive to paid members. You will be able to join our Irvington Key Club Facebook group page, emailing list, Division 12 East Facebook page, and division google group. If you are still deciding on whether or not you should be a paid member or not, read on!

Paid Members

The second level of membership available to you is becoming a paid member! Paid members of Key Club are officially recognized under Kiwanis International, meaning that you will be able to state that you are a Key Clubber in your college applications. In addition, you will receive an ID card, certificate, and pin from Key Club International. One other perk of becoming a paid member is that you will be covered by Kiwanis International whenever you go to a service event and you will be eligible to apply for Key Club scholarships! Each and every dollar that is in the membership fee goes back to you, but how you benefit from it depends on how much effort you put into your journey as a Key Clubber. On the club level, you will be eligible to run for officer and board member positions and attend events like FRN and DCON. On the division level, you will be able to run for positions such as Lieutenant Governor and PTP Coordinator. Curious on how you could become a bigger part of Key Club? Then continue reading!

Officers and Board Members

Want to become more involved in the school club? Past the paid membership level, you have the choice to become either a board member or an officer. Becoming a board member is the perfect chance for you to become more involved without having the responsibilities of an officer. Generally, board members are an introductory level position to learning about the amount of commitment and dedication it will take to become an officer, if you do choose to become one. Irvington Key Club offers the positions of class director and Kiwanis Family Chair. No prior experience is needed, so do not be afraid to apply when applications are open!

Taking on the role of becoming a club officer is not an easy task, but it is very rewarding. There are two kinds of officers: executive and non-executive. Executives officer positions include president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and bulletin editor; they are responsible for keeping the school club in touch with the division and are officially recognized by Key Club International as officers. However, a lot of credit is still given to non-executive officers as they are the backbone of the club. Non-executive positions include: historian, project director, publicity, and tech editor. They are responsible for keeping the school club afloat. No prior experience is needed for any of these positions, but the amount of commitment it takes should not be taken lightly. New executive officers are elected in March as the new Key Club year starts in April and non-executive officers are elected in April or May. This is your opportunity to make an impact and leave your mark on the club, so remember to apply! If you would like to take your involvement another step further, consider applying for a division position.

Division Positions

Key Club functions as an inverted pyramid; members are at the top, next is the school club, after that is the division, and at the bottom is the district. Divisions are what your school club and others in your area are a part of, and in our case we are a part of the Division 12 East superheroes. Getting involved in the division aspect of Key Club is a lot of fun, but with this comes work that requires an ample amount of dedication. One of the positions that you could run for in the division is Lieutenant Governor. They are the representative of your division and ensure that each club grows as they serve as the liaison between you and the district. Each year a new Lieutenant Governor is elected at Conclave, which is an event only open to paid members!

The Lieutenant Governor certainly cannot complete all of this work by themselves, so they are supported by a team called the division leadership team. The team comprises of the executive assistant, secretary, and bulletin editor. The job of the executive assistant is to help complete MRFs (monthly report form) and to provide monthly reflections for assigned clubs. The secretary's job is to record minutes at DCMs and to also provide monthly club reflections. The bulletin editor creates monthly division newsletters from each club's submissions. The division depends on you, so be on the look out for applications when the time comes around! This is a big step in each Key Clubber's journey, but if you would like to make an impact on a larger scale, then running for a district position is right for you.

District Positions

Key Club International truly is a student-led organization as the District Board consists of high school students who are under as much pressure as you are with their work, APs, college apps, and extra curricular activities! The four open positions for the CNH District are the District Governor, District Secretary, District Treasurer, and District Bulletin Editor. The role of the District Governor is to watch over the operations of the board. They train officers, appoint committees, and are the liaison between the district and Key Club International. The District Secretary regulates formal communication between the international organization and the district, the district and the division, and the division and you. Just like the Division Secretary, they keep ahold of all of the district minutes. The District Treasurer with the job of monitoring district finances, managing membership dues collection, and filling out forms and creating reports. Last but not least is the District Bulletin Editor who coordinates, creates, and distributes district publications. They have graphic standards to maintain and are responsible for notifying contributors about requirements and standards.

Holding a district position is a lot of work, but every single student who has held a previous position will tell you that all the work, stress, and frustration is all worth it in the end! Their job is complete when every single Key Clubber in their district can say that joining is an unforgettable experience that they will never forget. Every once in a while, you have the opportunity to meet a district board member at events such as Fall Rally, DCON, and ICON. In order to qualify to run for a district position, you must attend District Candidate Training Conference (District CTC) and will be elected at DCON.

International Positions

Service never stops in Key Club International as a highly motivated, truly dedicated team of high schoolers from all over the world are elected onto the Key Club International Board every year. The International Board consists of a President, Vice President, and a group of eleven students who take on the title of Board of Trustees. Each trustee has a lot expected of them as they are responsible for being the liaison between two districts and Key Club International. The International Council is comprised of the International Board and every District Governor.

The International President is truly the representative of what Key Club is about to Kiwanis International. They are held responsible for presiding at International Convention (ICON) and at international board meetings. The Interional Vice President is the President's right-hand man as they are ready to take on any duty should the President not be able to. They chair at least one international committee and make sure that all other committee chairmen fulfill their duties. The International Trustees take on the role of administrating and defining the policies of Key Club International. They carry out communication and clarify by-laws to the districts they are assigned to. If this is what you would like to accomplish in your Key Club journey, do not let anything stop you! Each keynnection that you have created along the way on your journey will be there to support you every single step of the way. We all know that we are capable of achieving so much, and that is all thanks to the hard work, dedication, and motivation that each Key Clubber puts into everything every single day of the year.
